I try to capture the essence; the beauty of the bloom while minimizing any distractive background.

Sheldon > Callalily. Another non-studio, outside the home shot with my 7.2 meg pocket camera. What a great photo subject the calla is! The challenge is getting it to kind of glow, while holding the edges . . .
Sheldon > Mums 3. Judi keeps cut flowers in our home. Perfectly arranged. All I need do is pull out the 20D. White mums shot in color; ambient light. Color conversion and post camera work applied.
Sheldon > Lily 10. Another of my supermarket flowerbunch grab-shots. 10 meg Pocket camera. Each time I shop, I watch for the good arrangements.
Sheldon > Flowerbunch. Another 'grabshot' with my pocket camera at the supermarket. A bit of post-camera work applied. The larger flower seems to have a ring of emerging smaller flowers. Without the green flowers, upper left, the composition would not be as strong.
Sheldon > Caladium. Fine art print soon to be available.
Sheldon > Phaelanopsis. Photograph made quickly at Lowe's garden shop with my trusty pocket camera. Some post-camera work, but not very much . . .
Sheldon > Mum. Another 'grabshot' with my 7.2 meg pocket camera; again at the supermarket. And as usual, a bit of post-camera work applied. All the lines at lower left are from the cellophane bunch wrapper. I thought they added an artistic compositional element.
Sheldon > Tigerlily view 2. Yet another viewpoint on one of my favorite flowers. Canon 20D, ambient light; mix of window and incandescent. The edge of the flower running out of the top left corner is a no-no, compositionally. Yet I feel the mass of detail lower right and the close view attract the eye from running off that corner.
Sheldon > Jack in the pulpit. Aspidistra flower. My 'boss' pocket camera with a bit of afterwork.
Sheldon > Yellow Hibiscus. Another trip to Lowe's garden shop with the pocket camera. I try to avoid even numbered devices. The strong bud (lower right), is a lesser third device which helps the composition by attracting the eye from running off the upper right corner of the photo.
Sheldon > Tigerlily close up with interpretive touches.
Sheldon > More mums. Although pumped up a little, this is really how the bunch at the super market looked. Trusty 7.2 meg pocket camera with some post production.
Sheldon > White mum shot. True to color, it seemed to glow with yellow from the center; bleaching to white as the petals matured.
Sheldon > Hibiscus macro (the inside of a hibiscus flower). Canon 20D. Could have been better. Slight breeze and high magnification are a tough combination.
Sheldon > Pink airplant flower, my garden. A grab-shot with my ever present pocket camera. Some minor post camera work applied.
Callalily. Another non-studio, outside the home shot with my 7.2 meg pocket camera. What a great photo subject the calla is! The challenge is getting it to kind of glow, while holding the edges . . .
